btw, their bellman is top! on-site restaurant library was a bonus, had dinner there.
-
it was really close to lake michigan. gold coast was around the corner. within 20 minutes' walk of the bus stop. we really loved this hotel and would return there when in chicago.
-
It was within walking distance to lake shore drive and the L-way
We were not told about the renovation going on so we had to carry our bags up and down two sets of stairs to get into the hotel. There was only one working elevator. We were under the impression that it had a nice restuarnt and swimming pool.that would be available but was not. The room had no chairs to sit in other than a desk chair and the beds were 12" from the floor so that made them uncomfortable to sit on in place of the chairs.
-
Close proximity to beach and Gold Coast bars/restaurants yet it was in a serene area.
We were there during renovations so of course the lobby will eventually be nicer.
-
The location.
Although the booking advice mentioned renovation was taking place, it did not advise that there were no refreshment facilities available. The room was very basic, toiletries were almost non existent. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and we managed little sleep. No coffee or tea making facilities in the room. More fool me for chosing this hotel - the only reasons were that the location looked good and we were with friends who had already booked this hotel at a rate, so I found out afterwards of 1/4 of the exorbitent rate we paid. How they had the audacity to charge the full rate given the condition of the hotel is unbelievable.
-
I loved the friendliness of the staff and how they did everything to accommodate my needs. The location was great too! In the heart of Chicago and it was so nice to wake up in the morning and experience the quietness ... it was unbelievable!
The halls are very dark.

Just about everything! They were renovating hotel but gave no perks to customers. They sold mufffins & juice because nowhere to go for breakfast- 1 elevator working-charged for internet services-

The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was excellent. The newly refurbished room was clean and fresh.
The hotel is under a major renovation. There are no food or beverages available at the hotel as the restaurant and room services are closed. We were unaware of this when we booked our nonrefundable reservation. We were also disappointed that we couldn't eat at the Pump Room as we had planned. There are several delivery services for food, but pizza didn't cut it. Construction noises in the hotel start around 8:00 am, and we had to wait between10-15 minutes for 1 of 2 very small elevators every time we wanted to leave/enter our room. Oh Yeah - no fans in the bathrooms!

The staff was very helpful and nice. We had a wheelchair that had to be carried up and down stairs at the entrance and there was always a willing hand to help. The area was lovely for walking around and central enough to get everywhere in a short time.
I did not like the appearance of the renovated hallway we stayed on. The walls and ceiling were painted dark brown including the beautiful wood wainscoating and the lighting was very subdued as the fixtures were also dark brown. The room was a very bright white - almost too white with very little decoration although I suspect there will be artwork added when the renovations are finished. There was only one chair - a bentwood chair at the desk which needed a bed pillow to make it comfortable enough to sit in for any length of time.
-
Location! Parking was also a good deal (for Chicago) at $29 per day, although no in/out so you had to use other modes of transportation during the stay (which worked for us).
No alarm clock in the room and no refridgerator in the room. Also had to ask for ice, no access to the machine (made me feel like I was bugging the staff).
-
Comfortable bed, and a great location.
Lobby, restaurant and many guest rooms under renovation. Had to enter through basement. Guest room smelled of fresh paint which bothered sinuses. No coffee maker, ironing board or wastebasket in guest room.
-
Chicago area is always great to go to.
Rooms floor was not properly vacuumed. Glass slivers around bed area. Not cleaned up for 2 days. Pollows are very hard although they where nice and large. Valay praking lied about the pricing for their use. Was charged $40.00 aday.. Better to use local perking lots. I do not recommaned this hotel to a dog.

location
lobby under construction and did not know this. Cigar smoke in first room before we were moved. Came from someone outside of main entrance smoking a cigar and either a parking attendant or freind.
-
Classy place, lots of history, needs a bit of a face lift - hope new owner keeps the ambiance.
uncertainty among seasoned staff about jobs and plans for property with new owner.

nice hotel in the old style, faded glory maybe, but clean and easy, not somewhere to spend much time, its short walk from Astor Street, the beach and the mile.
